2026 Travels Begin

2026 travels started a little later than we wanted but we are ready for a great travel year. We stayed at 4 Harvest Hosts on our way to Colorado. The first one was Van Life, near Jackson, MS.  They typcally open their parking lot to RV'ers who are evacuating during hurricane season but allow Harvest Host members to stay as well. 



Our second Harvest Host was Twisted Pines Winery & Vineyard in Marshall, TX. We so enjoyed sitting with Tyler, one of the owners as he told us the history of the land and how the winery came about. It was also interesting to hear about how he wants to expand, a lot of cool ideas that I think will do very well.

Our third Harvest Host was Horseshoe Bend Cellars Vineyard and Winery in Iowa Park, TX. There were 6 members enjoying this great location. We enjoyed the wine and some couples there enjoying an afternoon at the winery. We also met a younger, retired military couple and their 8 and 10 year old daughters from Virginia. I learned something I didn't know from the mom since she is homeschooling, the Department of Defense has a digital library. I signed up the next day. 👏👏


Our fourth night on the road we needed hookups so I could do some laundry and so we could use the dump station. We stayed at a convenient Love's RV Stop in Amarillo, TX. This was the same location we stayed in last year when our hydraulic motor went out. We are grateful all was good this year.

Our fifth night was another Harvest Host in Albuquerque, NM, Starr Brothers Brewing Co. We have stayed at this location before, we had Echo on the patio with us but it got windy and started raining so Ernie put Echo in the coach and we moved inside to finish our dinner and drinks.

The drive from New York into Vermont was really pretty. It wasn't quite peak colors but f all was definitely settling in due to the lack of rain. We drove to Bennington stopping at Hogback Mountain viewing area and checking out the Hogback Mountain Country Store. We visited Bennington Battle Monument that commemorates the Battle of Bennington during the Revolutionary War. The monument is  306 feet 4 and 1/2 inches tall and features an observation deck with views of three states. The cornerstone was laid in 1887, and the monument completed and dedicated in 1891.       We drove past this beautiful Church, Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales, a Roman Catholic Church. We also visited Robert Frost's Stone House.  The Stone House, built in 1769, is the site where Frost wrote, among other notable poems, “Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening,” “Nothing Gold Can Stay,” “Fire And Ice,” and the book  New Hampshire: A Poem with Notes and Grace Notes.  We had Echo s...

It's time to catch up on the blog, we have been absent for 4 months. I forgot to post some pics of the last few stays on our way to Alabama. Y'all remember the Dukes of Hazard? Well we stayed at John Schneider Studios in Holden, LA. We were told that he is on his property most of the time however we didn't see him while we were there. After Louisiana, we drove to Destin, FL and stayed at Destin Army Infantry Recreational area. We checked out the area and visited with friends Marty and Liz Crocco. From Destin, we made our way to Valdosta, GA to visit our granddaughter Thereasa. We only spent a couple nights but got to meet her dog Mazikeen.  We also got a visit a wildlife preserve. We fell in love with Fairhope Motorcoach Resort so in February we bought a lot with a beautiful outdoor living area. We made it home to AZ. After fueling up, we rolled into our yard and you could see it had been ignored. It will take us a bit to catch up especially in the heat. We purchased our 40' Class A RV in January of this year. I had a work trip in late January and then COVID hit so were not able to take it out and enjoy it. I had another work trip to Wisconsin in June and August so we worked it out that we would live in our RV during those 6 weeks rather than me flying, renting a car and staying in hotels. Additionally, I had vacation and 2 weeks of furlough so in between the June and August times I needed to be in Wisconsin we traveled out to Washington state and back to Wisconsin.  Our first long trip came to an end on August 21. This trip has proved that we can do this on a more full-time basis. Check out the details of our trip... We were on the road 85 days. We we slept in 18 states.
