2022 Travels #5 Corpus Christi, Texas & Padre Island

We spent 4 amazing days in the Corpus Christi area. Everyday was windy and it was humid. We stayed in a KOA that was on a peninsula between Laguna Madre and Montego Cove. I think we need to check this place out in the winter months, I think we would be able to enjoy the outdoors more.

When you are driving in the KOA is the on the right just before you get to the water.

Pictures from around the campground. Our site was backed up to Montego Cove.

Laguna Madre

Beach area. Saturday night they had a singer/guitar player sing under the canopy.

The first full day we were there we toured the USS Lexington.

Boys will be boys 🤣🤣

There were quite a few planes on the deck, including the F-14 Tomcat that was flown in the movie Top Gun.

Here are some interesting "Did You Know" about the USS Lexington...

I was really excited to find things about the ship my uncle served on. Unfortunately, I never met him because his ship fought a valiant fight and kept fighting until it went down. He was one of the 92 never found. 😭

Check out how these sailors slept. That mattress is not very thick.

It's amazing what  you learn about the ships when you tour them.

And a little humor...

They had a huge display of model planes and ships separated by era (WWI, WWII, Vietnam, etc.) I took pictures of all the planes Ernie worked on during his career. There were a couple we didn't find but I'm sure it is because the display was huge. Here are a few...

It was a great day checking out this ship, you definitely get a sense for what it was like living on it.

Padre Island was pretty cool too. We went to Padre Island National Seashore and got our stamp. Echo played in the Gulf and we walked the beach, which gave Echo time to dry off.
