Mountain Home, Idaho

After leaving Chelan Washington, we made our way to Coeur 'd Alene, Idaho. We visited my Uncle Phil (my mom's twin brother) and Aunt Sharon and I got to spend a little time visiting with my cousins Andrea and Phillip. We had a really great evening and I am so happy we added that time to our trip.

Our drive to Mountain Home was uneventful. We stayed at our favorite Harvest Host Echo Ridge and got some cute pictures of Echo.

We arrived in Mountain Home in time to see Casen play the National Anthem and the half time show at the Mountain Home Tigers football game.

I made Casen and his fellow trombone player these t-shirts.

The trombone squad.

We also got to celebrate our grandsons (Clay) 12th birthday. We went to Big Al's and played a bunch of games and then went to eat at a Mexican Restaurant.

We also saw an RV Furniture store on our way to Mountain Home in Meridian ID. We decided to take a look and found theatre seating. We didn't love our sofa sleeper couch and we were looking for something that reclines. The store is a family owned business and were amazing to work with. We wanted to replace our dinette and the driving seats but they were short in stock. They took our old sofa and even explained how to take it apart. I can't believe it all fit in the back of the Jeep.

We took a drive to Craters of the Moon National Monument & Park. I actually climbed Inferno Cone, it is steeper than it looks and I found out I am not in the best shape. 😞 And, I was disappointed, I did not find the source of the eruption.

Looking down from the top

This tree was on the opposite side on the top of the cone. You can see it is leaning and its roots are keeping it alive even though most of the roots are sticking out of the ground. It is hard to believe it can survive on a bed of lava rocks.

Craters of the Moon is a vast ocean of lava flows with scattered islands of cinder cones.  Most of the park has a lava rock and sage brush landscape.

After leaving Craters of the Moon we took a ride to Sun Valley. Fall color was definitely at its peak.

We ate at Sun Valley Brewing and the food was really good.

Some interesting horse art in a pasture of one of the ranches we passed.

We spent 2 weeks in Mountain Home, the temperatures were nice during the day and chilly at night. We left in the rain and the forecast showed the weather turning. Our first day drive was mostly in the rain, the second day was snow. There was definitely some white knuckle driving going on.

We ran into a couple of serious accidents which kept traffic slow, not a bad thing with all the snow.

We stopped right before heading out of the snow and was surprised to see the snow building up on the front.

And just like that, the snow was gone.

Not sure what this was about....

For all you Virgin River fans 😁....
