San Antonio TX

Sunday, we left Fredricksburg and drove to San Antonio. We stayed on JBSA (Joint Base San Antonio) Fort Sam Houston. When we were making reservations for this leg of the trip, we tried to get into Lackland AFB but they were full. We love the Riverwalk area, we should have made this stay a little longer so we could enjoy it during the day and the night time.

Since we had time, we decided to check out San Antonio Missions National Historic Site. Unfortunately 5pm snuck up really fast so we didn't get to see the 3rd site. Our plan was to see the Alamo when we walked the Riverwalk on Monday.

Check out this tree, at some point it bent over and it appears the limbs have rooted.

It was a perfect night to sit outside and watch Sunday night football. What a game it turned out to be, Mason Crosby kicked a field goal in the last few seconds.

Monday we headed out to walk the Riverwalk. We went early so there wasn't too many people. Unfortunately, but 11am it was already getting hot.

We have been on several bases and this is the first one where we have seen many troops out and about, captured this group marching.

Today, we are packing up and heading east.

Fredricksburg, Johnson City and Luckenbach TX

We arrived in Fredricksburg, TX on Friday early afternoon. We got settled in the Bending Oaks Ranch RV park (used to be a KOA).

There were even some long horn cattle beyond the dog park.

Since it was early afternoon we headed to Fredricksburg. So many shops and a lot of cute signs.

We found out that Highway 290 to Fredricksburg is wine country with over 50 wineries. The packet we received from the RV park when we checked in had a brochure so I picked out 4 that I thought would be cool to check out. Since most of them closed at either 5pm or 6pm we decided to check those out on Saturday. There was one that had 2 locations, one being downtown so while Ernie sat outside with Echo I got to do a wine tasting at Fiesta Winery.

Echo got a new harness in Dogologie. I think we have finally found one that fits him perfectly. He also got a new toy and a couple of treats.

After walking the downtown area, we had dinner at Hidden Hideaway Bar and Grill. The food was good and so was the service.

Saturday, we headed to Johnson City to go to Lyndon B. Johnson National Historic Park. We also went to LBJ State Park and Historic Site. We saw LBJ's boyhood home which is in Johnson City.  We learned that we wouldn't be able to tour the Texas White House due to structural issues, so we decided to skip the ranch.

Our next stop was 290 Wine Castle. This was are really cool place. Margeaux our host was fantastic. We were able to sit out on the deck, we enjoyed a couple of glasses of wine and a pizza that was really good. We found a couple of wines we love and we will definitely come back here.

Even the bathroom had a cool feature.

"Let's go to Luckenbach, Texas with Waylon and Willie and the boys...Out in Luckenbach, Texas there ain't nobody feelin' no pain." Can I say, I wasn't expecting what we found when we got to Luckenbach but what an interesting place.

There was a really good band playing and quite a few people hanging out. I would come back here again just to sit, relax, have a drink and listen to music.

Today, we move on to the next adventure.
