Yellowstone N.P., Part 4 - 2024

On Sunday our plan was to drive to Mammoth Hot Springs. In between Old Faithful and Madison, we took a drive on Firehole Lake Drive.

We also saw this nest alongside the road.


We also drove by Gibbon Falls.



It was hard to take pictures of Mammoth Hot Springs because of the sun. 


After leaving Mammoth Springs, we drove to Garnier, MT since it was only 5 miles so that we could see the NW gate to the park.


From Garnier we headed back to Fishing Bridge via Tower Junction and Canyon. We checked out the Petrified Rock.

We made it home to AZ. After fueling up, we rolled into our yard and you could see it had been ignored. It will take us a bit to catch up especially in the heat. We purchased our 40' Class A RV in January of this year. I had a work trip in late January and then COVID hit so were not able to take it out and enjoy it. I had another work trip to Wisconsin in June and August so we worked it out that we would live in our RV during those 6 weeks rather than me flying, renting a car and staying in hotels. Additionally, I had vacation and 2 weeks of furlough so in between the June and August times I needed to be in Wisconsin we traveled out to Washington state and back to Wisconsin.  Our first long trip came to an end on August 21. 2023 Year in Review

  2023 was an amazing year of traveling for us. We started in Fredricksburg, TX on New Year's Day and ended up in Fairhope, AL where we purchased a lot that will allow us to spend our winters in a warmer climate. We left South Dakota on Wednesday, August 31; we got everything we needed to get done. We had two major things to get done in our 2 weeks, the first was to get Ernie's eyes fixed YAG Capsulotomy on both eyes and set up our domicile. We would definitely recommend Black Hills Regional Eye Institute if you are in Rapid City and need laser surgery. Our drive to Mountain Home, Idaho was uneventful, and we stayed in a couple of different RV parks in Wyoming. We arrived in Mountain Home about 2:30 pm and our first activity was to go to Boise to see the hot air balloons glow at night at the Spirit of Boise event. We all got some yummy food at the food trucks and hung out until the balloons were ready to glow. Saturday was a day for many adventures. First, Shoshone Ice Caves in Shoshone Idaho. The cave is considered a lava tube and is 1,700 feet long. We went in the cave about 100 feet below the surface. The temperature in the cave is an average between 22- and 28-degrees year-round.
