Cody, WY, Part 1 - 2024
Although we have visited Cody prior to our RVing life, we have never stayed in Cody. There is so much to do around this area. Our first day we decided to check out the section on the map in orange Which includes part of the Bighorn National Recreation Area.
We traveled US Alt 14 northeast through Lovell. We stopped at the Visitor Center but it is closed on Monday's so we will have to get our stamp the next time. From there we took a side trip on Hwy 37 where we got to see Bighorn Canyon overlook. The views were absolutely stunning.
We saw some pronghorn goats on the side of the road.
We also drove through the Pryor Mountain Wild Horse Range. There are more than over 120 free-roaming wild horses. We were fortunate to see a few along the highway.

From our side trip, we drove back to US 14 and continued our drive through the Bighorn Mountains. The view of the basin from the top was pretty impressive.
We decided to check out a tourist attraction, Medicine Wheel. It is a mysterious 74 foot stone circle with 28 spokes (radial lines that extend to the peripheral circle). This wheel was present before the Crow Indians arrived in the area around 1776. We parked in the parking lot and didn't read any of the signs so we were in for 1.5 mile hike to the top where elevation was 10,955 ft. Needless to say it was a hike and then the 1.5 mile hike back.
Making our way back down the other side, we stopped at Shell Falls part of Shell Creek.
