Fall in New England, Part 6 - 2023

We left Maine and stayed at a RV Park in Foxboro, MA. Our first full day was a trip to Boston. We did a hop on hop off tour around the city. I checked off a bucket item list when we visited and ate at Cheers.

The next highlight was Fenway Park. It was quite the walk from Stop 8 but worth it. 


A group of students were interviewing people on their thoughts about Tim Wakefield, Ernie agreed to the interview.


We took the tour of Fenway, our tour guide Xavier. He was a really good tour guide, he had great stories and was really knowledgeable, even pointed out some things we didn't know.

The next day was a trip to Gillette Stadium, home of the New England Patriots. They have been doing a lot of renovations and one was adding a lighthouse that you can go up into. We also toured the New England Patriots Hall of Fame, I have to admit, that was pretty cool. The best part was meeting Paul and Gail there and spending a few more hours with them before we hit the road again.

The lighthouse, I managed to get the sun behind it making it look like it was shining out.

Mountain Home, Idaho

We left South Dakota on Wednesday, August 31; we got everything we needed to get done. We had two major things to get done in our 2 weeks, the first was to get Ernie's eyes fixed YAG Capsulotomy on both eyes and set up our domicile. We would definitely recommend Black Hills Regional Eye Institute if you are in Rapid City and need laser surgery. Our drive to Mountain Home, Idaho was uneventful, and we stayed in a couple of different RV parks in Wyoming. We arrived in Mountain Home about 2:30 pm and our first activity was to go to Boise to see the hot air balloons glow at night at the Spirit of Boise event. We all got some yummy food at the food trucks and hung out until the balloons were ready to glow. Saturday was a day for many adventures. First, Shoshone Ice Caves in Shoshone Idaho. San Antonio TX

  Sunday, we left Fredricksburg and drove to San Antonio. We stayed on  JB SA (Joint Base  San Antonio ) Fort Sam Houston. When we were making reservations for this leg of the trip, we tried to get into Lackland AFB but they were full. We love the Riverwalk area, we should have made this stay a little longer so we could enjoy it during the day and the night time. Since we had time, we decided to check out San Antonio Missions National Historic Site. Unfortunately 5pm snuck up really fast so we didn't get to see the 3rd site. Our plan was to see the Alamo when we walked the Riverwalk on Monday. Check out this tree, at some point it bent over and it appears the limbs have rooted. Mountain Home ID - 2023

We were able to get quite a few sites in while in Mountain Home visiting family. Our first adventure was to Malad Gorge State Park and Hagerman Fossil Beds National Monument.  Malad Gorge - Devil's Wash Bowl Malad Gorge downstream This bridge on I 84 eastbound is where a truck pulling a travel trailer went over the side of the bridge, click on the link to see the article.  Couple goes over bridge Waterfall downstream       Family Echo sporting his new shades. Cousins Waterfall at Woody's Cove A little bit about Hagerman Fossil Beds National Monument. The visitor center has casts of the fossils that were found but you can't actually get to the fossil bed. The bed contained the largest concentration of Hagerman Horse fossils in North America. It is considered a national monument because it protects the world's richest known fossil deposits from the late Pilocene epoch, about 3 to 4 million years ago.
