Barksdale AFB, Louisiana

The last 4 days we have been staying at Barsksdale AFB in Louisiana. It is still warm and humid but not like it was in Florida.

The FamCamp here is really nice with plenty of space between the sites.

There is a nice walking path right outside the park that goes along Range Road, Echo and I are enjoying exploring the area. The other day we walked up the road to Clear Lake. It is amazing how big the tree trunk get at the bottom because of the water. The path took us by the lake and then into the woods. We decided to turn around when we encountered the unexploded ordinance area sign.

The Global Power Museum is here on base. We had to settle for a drive by. The website said they were open Monday-Saturday but when we got there on Saturday, the sign said they are open Monday-Friday.

Ernie worked on the B-52's during his career. As he was helping close KI Sawyer AFB in Upper Michigan, one of his choices for assignment was Barksdale. AFB. He also said that the planes still in commission are 60 years old. I guess they don't build them like they used to.

He also worked on the SR-71 Blackbird, this is one cool plane.

The second day here, we went shopping at the Commissary. As we were driving back to the park, there was a B-52 taking off, it is one big airplane!

Echo had to make a visit to Banfield. He developed a cough in the middle of the night. Since we had him in a doggy day care within the last 2 weeks we decided he should get checked out for kennel cough. They put him on antibiotics for 7 days and gave him a Bordetella booster shot.

The young lady that worked with the vet was really nice. She asked us if we were staying on base and told us that she lives in the historic house district on base. She also asked us if we were aware that there are alligators on base. Apparently they are in all the lakes and canals. She showed us a picture of an alligator she took while out kayaking on Flag Lake. We took a drive to see the lake on the way back from Banfield, we didn't see any gators.

Since Echo was under the weather we hung out in the RV for the day and I got a couple of my projects done.

Our last day at Barksdale, since the museum was closed we did a wine tasting at On Cloud Wine. They have a very nice outdoor area where we enjoyed our wine tasting and a glass of White Merlot.

Echo checking out the neighbors.

One of the things I love about staying on bases...revelry (7:00am), Star Spangled Banner (5:00pm), taps (9:00pm).

One more state added to our map.

Today we pack up and move on.
