Buffalo, WY - 2024

Image
We spent 6 nights in Buffalo, WY where we explored the Bighorn National Recreation Area. We drove into Crazy Woman Canyon which was pretty cool! The roads were narrow and there were a couple of one vehicle bridges. The drive through Ten Sleep Canyon was also pretty impressive! We actually thought we were going to walk out to this but it is was just a marker sign.

Sturgis Car Museum - 2024

We left Ellsworth AFB and drove 40 miles west to stay at Sturgis Car Museum that is a Harvest Host. The museum is home to the SAAB Heritage Museum and we had the opportunity to see 100 of these Swedish cars, including race cars and 13 cars originally a part of the General Motors Heritage Collection. Jay Leno and Jerry Seinfeld are a couple of celebrities that have donated their vehicles and stories to the museum.

We have stayed on Ellsworth AFB a few times and have never made it to the museum right outside the main gate, it was really cool to see all the planes outside and then history inside the museum. Ellsworth AFB - The Badlands - 2024

Image
We drove through the Badlands scenic loop and hiked the Notch Trail.  The hike was a moderate to strenuous hike meandering through a canyon, climbing a log ladder and following a ledge to the "notch" that gives you a view of the White River Valley. The hike comes with a warning for anyone with a fear of heights.  The "Notch" Climbing the log ladder View from the "Notch"

Ellsworth AFB - While on base - 2024

We took advantage of family day at Bandit lanes. At $1 games, $1 shoe rental it was a fun and inexpensive way to spend a hot afternoon in South Dakota. I was amazed to see deer on base.  There were also bunnies everywhere, Echo loved to find them and chase them as far as the leash would let him go. As close as he would get to a bunny, looking out the window in the door. A big jack rabbit It was pretty cool to watch the B-1's fly over and land
